Tesla is probably the most well known eco friendly electric car on the market today but now the luxury sedan has a little competition from luxury supercar maker Bentley. Bentley is reportedly considering joining in with an EV of its own. The typical price for a Tesla Model S goes for about $100,000 but don’t expect to get such a great deal on the Bentley EXP 10 because the price on this beast will set you back at least $200,000.
[quote_box_center]”We are currently in the stage where we are evaluating all the possibilities, but there are so many question marks behind this,” “I think there will be an answer within the next six months to a year to decide which direction we will go, but of course electric will be a future strategy direction for Bentley.” – Bentley engineering chief Rolf Frech[/quote_box_center]
The car would be modeled based on the same electric platform like the Mission E by Porsche but that’s about the only thing that would be similar. The body and interior of the car will have Bentley’s signature designs incorporated into the look and feel of the car. Even though the car will be powered by Porsche power block you can expect the size to bit larger.
Frech hinted that the Bentley EXP 10 Speed 6 sports coupe concept car pictured above could be built as the Bentley EV. The size of the car however could impact the range limitations causing the overall range of distance to decrease.
Of course, all of this said, Bentley could nix the car before it ever reaches showrooms and leave the EVs to the other VW Group brands. If Tesla has proved anything it is that there is a market for luxurious and powerful environmentally friendly vehicles. If any car company could pull off mixing impeccable luxury with superb performance it is Bentley and will give us something to look forward to seeing the finished product if they continue to move forward with the project.
